The sides of this exceptional crystal vase feature sculpted peonies, a flower that serves as a symbol of prosperity, beauty and honor. Their modelling also evokes the process of lost wax sculpture, when the craftsman breaks the plaster mould to reveal the piece. Rene Lalique founded his firm in Paris in 1885, and soon became a celebrated Art Nouveau jeweler.
